Legion (2010)

When the last angel falls, the fight for mankind begins.

A super-natural action thriller with an apocalypse theme of epic proportions – when God loses faith in mankind, he sends a legion of angels to bring on the apocalypse. The survival of humanity lies in the hands of a group of strangers stranded in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael (Paul Bettany).

UK Cinemas

Disney want to shorten the time it takes to release a film at the cinema to its DVD release. At present the interval from movie theatre to DVD is 17 weeks, Disney want to shorten this to 12 weeks.

So what does that means for consumers, well we get those films a few weeks quicker. What does that mean for Disney? They get more money in their pockets earlier a few weeks earlier. The cinema chains aren’t liking this idea, they want to keep the current interval between the releases as they feel this will reduce cinema goers appetites to see films at the cinema.

Alice in Wonderland

Just so you know these three cinema chains combined represent 95% of the UK’s 3D screens –  that’s an awful lot of cash Disney will be missing out on if Disney flicks don’t make it to the cinema. Disney distributors and the cinema chains are currently in discussions to resolve the situation.

So were you planning on going to see Alice in Wonderland at the cinemas upon its release from March 5th? Some have suggested that if UK cinema goers cannot see Alice on the big screen they may just turn to piracy instead.  Let’s hope they can resolve the situation.

Shane Acker, devised this longer version of his 9 creation from his shorter 11 mins screenplay (see below) that won him the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2006. The original version of 9 has no voice work, relying solely on, stunning visuals,  sounds and the interactions of the characters as they explore a world, to them that’s brand new. Clearly, a lot of care and attention to detail was put into place when Acker created 9.  No wonder why he won that Oscar.

Much of the look and feel that gave the original it’s charm all seem to be there for this feature film, 9 comes across as dark and frightening in a world that none of us would ever like to imagine to come true. So cue Tim Burton (Corpse Bride) as 9‘s producer. Burton and Acker have both stuck to what gave the original 9 so much presence and we at The Film Buzz think they’ve done an amazing job. You can check out 9 in theatres now.
