For those die-hard fans of the Coen brothers, Jeff Bridges and damn good ol’ fashioned cowboy movies, Paramount have just released this beautifully made comic book that spins out a sub-plot from the upcoming True Grit film.

A little info on the comic:

‘Mean Business’ is a hand-drawn narration of one of the key establishing scenes in the Coen Brothers’ movie (and Charles Portis’ novel) and allows a very visceral canvas upon which to introduce Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridge’s character) one of the film’s protagonists and all round badass bounty hunter.
What I thought you might find just as interesting though is the story behind its commission. UK comic artist Christian Wildgoose saw the teaser trailer back in the autumn and ended up posting a sketch of Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn on his blog.

These drawings were spotted by someone working with Paramount who thought they’d make a fantastic rendition as a graphic novel. Et voila. Full props to Dan & Saffron at Glass Eye Inc, as they were the two behind getting this project made.

The True Grit official website is now live and the film comes out 11th February starring Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and the wonderful new talent Hailee Steinfield… we await with bated breath.

Larry Gopnik is a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university who has just been informed by his wife that she has fallen in love with one of his pompous colleagues and is leaving him, his jobless nuisance brother is sleeping on his couch, his son has discipline problems and is dabbling with pot and on top of all that his daughter is stealing money from his wallet to save up for a nose job amongst other troubles. As a last resort, Larry decides to seek advice from three different rabbi’s – will they be able to help him cope with life’s difficulties and provide the answers to being a serious man?

Starring the excellent Michael Stuhlbarg (Body of Lies) as Larry Gopnik and appearances by Richard Kind, Fred Melamed, Sari Lennick, Aaron Wolff and Jessica McManus.

The film is written, produced and directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen a.k.a. the Coen brothers who were also the creators of The Big Lebowski (1998), No Country for Old Men (2007) and Burn After Reading (2008).

Deeply compelling, thought-provoking and most importantly very genuine, this film examines ordinary life crisis’s in an extraordinary way. Experience sadness mixed with a perfect blend of humour as Larry Gopnik goes on a journey of realisation and self-discovery intricately captured by the Coen brothers.
